Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was hit by a car and killed near Dover.
Simon Davis, a 39-year-old local man, was walking along the A258 Dover to Deal road near the Swingate Inn at 8.40pm on Boxing Day when he was struck by a red Peugeout 306 travelling from Deal in the direction of Dover. He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A long-standing Dover Athletic supporter, Mr Davis lived at Swingate with his wife Zoe and two children. He was on his way home from Dover's Boxing Day match at Hastings at the time of the accident.
A spokesman for Dover Athletic Football Club said: "Only last week he made a passionate plea for our supporters to rally around the club on a fans' internet forum following a poor run of results.
"Everyone involved with Dover Athletic sends their condolences to his family at this very sad time."
The driver of the Peugeot, a 22-year-old man from Canterbury, has been spoken to by Kent Police but has not been arrested.
Enquiries are continuing and police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area just before the incident and may have seen the pedestrian, or the car.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
