Dover District Council is piloting a new measure to help people stay safe over the Christmas period. The 'Taxi Safe' scheme is a joint venture between the Council's Licensing and Community Safety Units and provides a text number to which members of the public can send the number of the taxi they are using. This means there is a formal record of individuals using specific licensed vehicles and the time of that use.
Licensing Manager Tony Bartlett said: "Dover District is an extremely safe place to live and visit. This scheme is not because of any problem, but is another way we are working to continue to keep the district a safe place. This is about reassuring people they are safe as they celebrate. We suggest people enter the number in their address book and text the plate number, or registration of the taxi, or the driver's badge number to Taxi Safe when they get into the taxi."
The Taxi Safe number is 07800 008078 and is charged at a standard text rate.
