Deputy Lieutenant Visits

Tuesday, 30 October 2007
Link Deputy Lieutenant Lady Pender was welcomed to Dover District when she came to the Council offices at Whitfield for an official visit with the Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Bernard Butcher, on Friday (26 October). The office of Lieutenancy of Kent dates from 1558 and has evolved to serve the Monarchy in the County. Deputy Lieutenants develop important networks and liaise closely with local authorities.

Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Bernard Butcher, said: "We were very pleased to welcome Lady Pender and continue to work closely with the Lieutenancy, to maintain this important link and make sure the district continues to be represented at the very highest level."

On the morning of the visit, Dover District Council also took delivery of the new civic car for transporting civic dignitaries when promoting the area - and Lady Pender joined the Chairman in looking over the vehicle. The new car is a Jaguar Sovereign, manufactured in the UK. The previous civic car was several years old and maintenance costs were rising. The new vehicle is leased to the Council, including maintenance costs, as a cost effective way forward.
