Dover Priory Improvement Proposals Keeping On Track For The Future

Thursday, 23 August 2007
A major initiative to renovate Dover Priory and the surrounding area is keeping on track for the future - and plans for proposed works to the station approach will be on show at a public exhibition in the foyer of the Dover Discovery Centre on 1, 3 and 4 September.

Plans and images of proposed renovations will be on display from 10am-4pm at the Discovery Centre. Proposals include works to the Station Forecourt, Priory Steps, Station Approach Road and Folkestone Road. The works are planned to make the station and the surrounding area more attractive, safe and practical to use. Members of the project team will be at the exhibition to answer questions and record your opinions.

These proposals have been developed following feedback from an earlier exhibition in January, and a programme of stakeholder consultation. Plans have been developed with a range of partners, including Dover District Council, Kent County Council, Dover Pride, Network Rail and train company Southeastern.

This follows an earlier programme of major works to refurbish the station building, booking hall and toilet facilities, funded by a range of partners.

Cllr Nigel Collor, DDC Cabinet Member for Access, said: "These are exciting times for the district and we are very pleased to see proposals for further improvements to Dover Priory taking shape. This is a great example of partnership working and keeps Priory Station firmly on track for the arrival of the high speed rail link in 2009."

For more information on the proposals, please see the Dover District Council website at www.dover.gov.uk.
