A partnership project to promote healthy living in the community engaged with more than 28,000 residents in a variety of funded activities for all ages throughout the last year - and is entering its fifth year with a range of projects and events ready for action.
Project DELTA is a Healthy Living Network for the Dover District and is a five year Government initiative, facilitated by Dover District Council, working with the Eastern and Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust and a range of statutory and voluntary bodies and the local community. DELTA (Dover Enabling Living Thinking and Achieving) covers ten wards in the District: Buckland, St. Radigunds, Town and Pier, Castle, Priory, Tower Hamlets, Aylesham, North Deal, Mongeham and Mill Hill.
One of the biggest funded activities for the year ahead is the community initiative, Bien Etre, which promotes a variety of healthy eating, exercise and arts initiatives. Let's Get Started events have been organised where people can enjoy a variety of free activities, including penalty and netball shoot outs, and take advantage of free health checks including body fat analysis, blood pressure and lung function testing. Bien Etre's Let's Get Started days are being held from 2pm to 5pm at Priory Fields School on 2 March and 26 April; Melbourne Primary School on 1 March and 23 April; and Triangles Community Centre in St Radigunds, on 27 February and 22 March.
Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, DDC Cabinet Member for Community who attended the Bien Etre event on 27 February, said: "The event was a great success and was a very enjoyable way to help raise awareness of healthy living within the community. Project DELTA is a good example of how we continue to work in partnership with the community and other agencies to bring real benefits to local people."
