A Smoke Free Roadshow is coming to Dover Market Square on National No Smoking Day, Wednesday 14 March, to launch a new campaign to keep people in the district informed about the national smoke free legislation that takes effect from 1 July.
Dover District Council, working with partners from the NHS Stop Smoking Service and the Kent Fire Service, will be hosting the roadshow from 11am to 3pm. A stand in the town centre will provide full information about smoke free legislation, and about the dangers of smoking. The event will launch a campaign to raise awareness of the new legislation, which will make it an offence to smoke in virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England from 1 July.
The enforcement of the smoke free legislation in the district is the responsibility of DDC's Environmental Health team. The Government has provided dedicated funding to help bring in the new law. This is being used by DDC to help with education and training to keep people informed and ensure a smooth transition into the new legislation.
