Council tenants are being given a chance to get further involved in key issues around their housing and local community with Dover District Council's tenant elections.
Nominations are being sought throughout the district for Council tenants and leaseholders who want to represent their communities. The successful candidates will voice the views of their neighbourhood at the Area Tenants Meetings, and work with Council Officers on making improvements and addressing key housing issues.
The elections are being organised by the Council's Housing Department. All candidates must be nominated using an official nomination form and backed by six other tenants. Nominations close on 24 August 2007. Elections will be held by a postal vote.
Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community, said: "We continue to work hard to involve tenants, and we encourage people to come forward as representatives. Training is given and help is available for transport, childcare and other costs to enable people to attend meetings. Tenants' views are vital in decisions the Council has to take and tenant involvement is rewarding, fun and makes a difference."
