Transforming Dover's Homes For The Future

Monday, 19 February 2007
Dover District Council is welcoming major news that it has been given the go ahead to invest a further £1.6m in private sector housing in the district to help those in most need.

This important news follows the announcement last year that the district was awarded £1.8m from the Government's Regional Housing Pot to be spent on improving private sector housing for households receiving means tested benefit.

Dover District residents were given the chance to learn how to access grants and interest free loans from this funding to improve their property at a Transforming Dover's Homes public exhibition at Dover Town Hall on 7 February. The Council had 130 referrals following the promotion, which are currently being processed.

The successful event was organised by Dover District Council's Private Sector Housing Team to help local homeowners identify suitable funding schemes available to them for home improvement works, such as new central heating systems, repairing roofs or windows, installing fire safety measures and training on how to maintain your own property.

Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, DDC Cabinet Member for Housing and Community, who attended the event, said: "This is a very important initiative and we are delighted at this latest news from the Regional Housing Board. This follows the success of our recent public exhibition and is continuing great news for the community. This funding is very significant news, which complements our work with a range of partners in the community to work to boost quality of life in the district."
