Dover District Council has been leading a project, working with other authorities across the country, to bring important benefits information to people nationwide.
Dover District Council is the lead authority for the National Leaflets Project for Housing and Council Tax Benefit. This is a scheme funded by the Department of Works and Pensions to create leaflets giving information that can be used nationally. Eight leaflets produced by DDC are now available for individuals or other Local Authorities on a new website, also created by DDC at www.benefit-leaflets.org
The leaflets give help and advice on: Housing and Council Tax Benefit Advice for Working Age; Housing and Council Tax Benefit Advice for Pensioners; Information for Landlords and Agents; Information for Students; Appeals; Overpayments and Debt; Backdating; Discretionary Housing Payments. Leaflets are available in 10 languages other than English on the website. There are Braille and large print copies, and an audio version can be activated via the website. All the leaflets have been Crystal Marked by the Plain English Campaign. For more information go to www.benefit-leaflets.org
