Dover town centre is set to be filled with the sounds, sights and culinary delights of a number of different nations as the Annual Multi-Cultural Festival gets under way.
Artists and performers from differing cultural backgrounds will be providing a packed day of entertainment at the Market Square on Saturday 21 June from 11.00 am until 4.15 pm.
The event promises to be a great day of fun and fellowship for the whole family, including:
The rich sounds of the Whitstable Samba Band
Music from ages past provided by Rough Musicke from Sandwich
African drumming for the kids by Jambo Africa, a Kenyan group from Margate
The delights and sheer magic of Chinese ribbon dancing, performed by Jun Jing
The distinctive melodies of the music of the Kora musical instrument from Senegal, Africa
The delights of Ghurkha children as they sing and dance for us
A whacky band named Trouser Trumpets from Canterbury
A brass band from The Beechgrove Community at Nonnington
Food from Poland
Gypsy stew served from a real Vardo
Noodles from the Chinese stall
A face painter that is free to all the children
Balloons and ice cream vendors
Former broadcaster and Kent Police Media Officer Jon Green will provide a commentary as event announcer.
Dover's Multi-Cultural Festival, which is now in its 8th year, is organised by Kent Refugee Action Network together with a number of local groups and organisations, and aims to celebrate the rich cultural diversity that exists in the town.
Revd Kenneth Berkin from Kent Refugee Action Network said: "This really does promise to be a fantastic day for all the family and I look forward to seeing you there. The sun is usually kind to us this day every year so mark it in your diary and lets see you on June 21st."
Entrance is free but there will be a voluntary collection for the Chinese Earthquake Appeal.
