Have Your Say On Services For Disabled Young People In Dover District

Monday, 24 November 2008
Following the successful Reach for the Sky event this summer, attended by more than 30 parents, carers and professionals interested in the welfare of disabled children in Dover District, a follow up event is being held this Friday (28 November). The event focuses on services for disabled young people in Dover District and is taking place from 10am to 2pm at St Mary's Parish Centre, Cannon Street, Dover. All parents or carers of disabled children are welcome to attend, and refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Reach for the Sky 2 is organised by The Children's Society and DDC's Community Development Team to give parents/carers of disabled children a chance to find out information about and have their say on services for disabled young people. The day will provide an important opportunity to shape the action plan for the new Dover District Youth Strategy, to ensure that disabled young people are fully included and their needs met for the future. The event will be an opportunity to learn about the work of SNAAP (Special Needs Advisory and Activities Project - a parent-run organisation providing activities for families with disabled children in the Canterbury area), and a chance to meet other parents/carers of disabled children in a relaxed and informal setting.

The Dover District Youth Strategy 2008-2012 is a major strategy for the next five years, focusing on the areas young people have highlighted as the important issues affecting their lives. It has been developed following extensive work with young people in the area and feedback from a wide range of stakeholders. The multi agency strategy will be delivered by a range of partners in the community, with the support of DDC, KCC, and more than 50 partners in the voluntary, community, public and private sectors.
