Dover District Council's work to support equalities for residents and staff has been recognised by the national Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), which has improved the Council's equality standards rating following a recent inspection.
The inspection included some of the many community groups the Council is actively involved with. Community representatives' comments included 'Dover District Council has made a difference' and 'we have a warm relationship with Dover District Council'.
Enthusiasm, strong leadership, clear vision and strong partnerships were just some of the areas of strength recognised by the external reviewers, all of whom were highly experienced in delivering equalities and diversity.
Cllr Ian Ward, Cabinet Member for Corporate Resources and Performance, said: "Equality Standard Level 3 is a real recognition of the way we have moved forward over the last two years. The most inspirational aspect is how our communities are increasingly involved in designing and delivering the services they need. This is only part of the journey, but the award brings greater impetus so we can continue upwards."
