Dover Museum Awarded Learning Outside The Classroom Quality Badge

Sunday, 15 March 2009
Dover Museum is one of the first organisations in Kent to be awarded the new Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. The Quality Badge is a brand new scheme, combining for the first time learning and safety into one easily recognisable badge for all organisations providing quality educational visits.

The Quality Badge is part of the Government's £4.5 million Out and About package, which in addition to the badges, provides guidance and information for teachers on how to plan and organise high quality activities that enhance teaching. The badge is designed to make it easier for teachers to identify providers of quality educational visits. The Quality Badge was developed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, and badges are awarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.

Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families said: "Educational visits are amongst the most memorable experiences in a child's school life. I want to see schools taking advantage of the opportunities that learning outside the classroom provides to bring subjects to life."

Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, Dover District Council Cabinet Member said: "This is fantastic news for Dover Museum and we are delighted to see this national recognition of the quality of educational services provided. This is a real credit to all staff involved. Dover Museum is proud to have welcomed over 11,000 school pupils from all over the South East and abroad in the last year. Pupils visiting the Museum can take part in a wide range of workshops linked to the National Curriculum, and families are also catered for at the Museum with a range of family days which take place every month."
