An evening of musical celebrations is coming to Dover this Saturday (12 September) - with the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall showing live on the Big Screen in Dover Market Square from 7.30-10.30pm. There is also a live jazz and dance performance of a piece of music exploring the myths and legends of East Kent, from 7pm. Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the fun and the spirit of the evening, and bring a picnic (but remember that all Big Screen events are no alcohol events).
The installation of the Big Screen in Dover this year followed a wide range of partners working together. It was installed for use by the community for information and local events, as well as for national events, and the Olympics in 2012. The BBC provides content and manages the screen.
This event follows the successful All Dancing Dover celebration on Saturday 29 August, which marked the official launch of the Big Screen. It was estimated that the event was attended by around 1500 people. All Dancing Dover was a nationally recognised Cultural Olympiad event, and highlights were shown on Big Screens across the country. The launch also saw the announcement of the winner of the competition to design a poster for the back of the Big Screen, which was won by Alan Davis from Kingsdown.
