Taxi Drivers' Awards

Monday, 18 May 2009
Fourteen taxi drivers within the Dover District have had their professionalism recognised by the award of a qualification in Road Passenger Transport. The Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Bernard Butcher, presented the certificates.

The drivers undertook two days training in a classroom setting and were then assessed whilst working. Amongst other topics, the training covered dealing with emergencies or incidents, and customer care. The course is voluntary and fully funded by Train to Gain, an agent for the Learning Skills Council. The course was run by Dover District Council. DDC is now running a fourth course, which means that more than 60 drivers should be qualified by July. A further course is planned in August.

DDC Licensing Manager, Tony Bartlett said: "We are extremely encouraged by the take up of this course, and by the co-operation of taxi firms with training providers Goskills and M2. We are very pleased to see the professionalism of our taxi drivers recognised in this way."
