Working Together To Address Issued Of Substance Misuse

Friday, 1 May 2009
Dover District's Community Safety Partnership has launched a new campaign to help raise awareness and address issues of substance misuse in the area, as part of its ongoing work to ensure the district remains a safe place to live, work and visit.

A series of initiatives is now being brought in by the multi agency partnership to provide help and advice, and make a difference on this important issue. As part of this drive, a new information leaflet has been launched which gives details of organizations, together with the services they offer to address alcohol and other substance misuse.

The Dover District Community Safety Partnership brings together Dover District Council, Kent County Council, Kent Drug and Alcohol Team, KCA (Kent Council on Addiction), Kent Police, Eastern and Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust, and a range of other organizations. This new drive is being taken forward by the partnership's Substance Misuse Sub Group.

Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, Nadeem Aziz said: "There are a number of very exciting initiatives currently being worked upon, but the group felt that it was good practice in the first instance to issue a simple directory that lists the experienced and professional local organisations and services currently available. This means residents can be kept aware and informed of the organisations serving Dover District, as the other initiatives are launched. Working together as a proactive partnership, we are confident of making a positive difference to help improve quality of life in the community."

As well as listing local organisations, the leaflet publicises other local and national bodies who work in addressing substance misuse, including the 'Talk To Frank' website.
