Young People Take A Pace Forward

Tuesday, 1 September 2009
A special presentation invited a group of young people from the Tower Hamlets ward in Dover to take a pace forward last Monday (24 August) - when they were invited to DDC offices to be presented with their National Open College Network certificates for 'Taking Part In Sport'. The certificates were presented by Nadeem Aziz, Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership.

Fourteen young people gained the nationally recognised qualification after attending a 12 week pilot project that was run by PACE Development at the Dover Boys Grammar School. The project was supported by the Dover District Community Safety Unit and funded by the Respect Youth Task Force.

The course was well attended, with up to around 30 young people attending every session. PACE also put on DJ workshops. Representatives from KCC wardens and Police Community Support Officers were at every session and carried out bike marking, a member of the Dover District Community Safety Unit was present to provide help and advice, and other agencies came along to speak.

PACE continues to work in Tower Hamlets on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-8pm. They are also in St Radigunds on Wednesdays, 6pm-8pm, and Buckland on Thursdays, 6pm-8pm. These sessions have been funded by the Dover District Community Safety Partnership, KCC and Southern Housing Group.

Nadeem Aziz, Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership said: "We were very pleased to be able to congratulate the young people who gained this qualification. This was a successful multi-agency project, and we thank everyone who worked hard to make this pilot such a success. Along with our partners, we look forward to continuing to support projects through PACE in local communities."
