Dover District Council is welcoming news that a decision has been made by the NHS Trust on plans for the Community Hospital in Dover, as a decision enables the Council to move forward with partners to maximise the benefits for the future of the area.
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust has announced a decision to proceed with the development at Buckland, and to start work on the formal planning application.
Despite the best efforts of all parties to define an alternative site, this has not been possible, and this decision will provide much needed clarity, and improvements to the provision of future health care for Dover residents.
Nadeem Aziz, Chief Executive at Dover District Council said: "We look forward to working with the Trust and key agencies to ensure that the best possible facilities for the community are incorporated in the proposals. The provision of a new community hospital represents another key step in the regeneration and growth programme at Dover. At a local level, it can also act as a key lead for other development and improvements in the Coombe Valley area. The Council will continue to work with all parties and key stakeholders to enable the best outcomes in the area."
