UK Border Agency officers in Dover have charged a man with the illegal importation of approximately one kilo of cocaine. Kingsley Nwanekwu, a German national living in Greenwich, London was arrested on 26 November at Dover.
UK Border Agency officers stopped the 46-year-old man on his arrival from Antwerp at Dover's Eastern Docks. After questioning him, officers conducted a body search and Mr Nwanekwu was then arrested as officers suspected he had swallowed drugs.
He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on 30 November where he was remanded in custody.
Enquiries by UK Border Agency investigators are continuing.
Carole Upshall, UK Border Agency Director for the south coast ports, said: "UK Border Agency officers work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to detect and prevent drugs from being smuggled into the UK. We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.
