A special event is remembering the Eighties in Dover on Monday 26 September - with interactive displays and a range of activities in the town centre to help remember the everyday events of a generation ago.
The event, organised by Dover District Council and the BBC, in collaboration with Dover Museum and Dover Discovery Centre, is part of the BBC Domesday Reloaded project.
In 1986, the BBC launched an ambitious project to record a snapshot of everyday life across the UK for future generations. A million volunteers took part. Now, 25 years later you can explore the archive online, see the pictures, update the information and make your mark on this fascinating record of our collective history.
On the day, visitors to the Market Square will be able to attempt the Rubik's Cube challenge, get footloose with the Popdance team, solve an 80s who's who quiz, watch footage on the Big Screen of how Dover used to be, and marvel at 80s memorabilia and vehicles from a collection by the Timewarp local history group.
Dover Library and Museum will also be on hand to invite you to find out all about how the area has changed and to collect people's memories of the decade.
Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and Youth said: "We are very pleased to be working with the BBC and local schools and other partners on this important project. We hope local residents will enjoy this chance to come along to the Market Square, to see some unique footage and remember the 80s, and to get involved in a range of activities on the day."
The event is free of charge, including entrance to Dover Museum's 1980s exhibition, and runs from 11am to 3pm. For more information on the event, contact Gillian Gayton on 01304 872424, or for more information on the BBC Domesday Reloaded project, visit www.bbc.co.uk/domesday.
