Port In Union With Dover Rugby Football Club

Tuesday, 7 June 2011
Dover Harbour Board (DHB) and Dover Rugby Football Club (DRFC) have announced a major new partnership designed to support the development of grass roots rugby in Dover. Both organisations are united by a common purpose which is to see the young people of Dover develop the life skills that a game such as rugby can bring and therefore foster confidence and success in the years ahead.

They are also united in wanting to nurture the talent of the young people of Dover by working with children throughout their early lives in providing the support and encouragement that will help them to achieve their goals in the sport.

Supporting the full 13 DRFC mini and youth teams (as well as a new under 16s girls side) totalling over 300 signed on players, DHB hopes to work with DRFC in helping them and the wider sporting community achieve a step change in the development of rugby in Dover.

Tim Waggott, Director of Finance and Commercial for DHB said: "Both organisations have a vision for the future which is to inspire our young people and provide new opportunities for them. Our support for DRFC is based on shared community values and the desire to foster a brighter future for the people of Dover. Our support for grass roots community rugby at DRFC is a fantastic way of doing just that."

DRFC recognises that grass roots rugby is the key to even greater success and therefore having the major support of DHB throughout the youth program will create the platform that is needed.

Richard Catt, Chairman of DRFC said: "We are delighted to welcome DHB as the major supporter for grass roots rugby in Dover. We have achieved a great deal through our youth program but the support of DHB within our community will enable us to really move forward in developing the club and cementing our RFU Whole Club Seal of Approval."

DHB is also supporting several community rugby events provided by DRFC in order that its engagement with the young people of Dover district and their families in this initiative is comprehensive.

Mr Catt added: "Having the support of a major business such as DHB in this rugby world cup year will help us to reach out to the community in showcasing just what can be achieved from working hard at grass roots level."
