This month, the Port of Dover Police are organising a Road Safety Awareness Week as part of a national campaign run by the charity, BRAKE. From Monday 21 November to Sunday 27 November, the annual campaign will raise awareness of the hazards faced by the travelling public on UK roads today.
Port of Dover Police Officers will play their part by engaging with members of the public at the Port, offering advice and information on a number of road safety issues.
Steve Masters, Chief Officer of Police, Port of Dover Police, said: "As Europe's busiest ferry port, the Port of Dover is a very busy place and we wish to ensure that all passengers pass through the Port safely."
In collaboration with P&O Ferries, DFDS Seaways and Kent County Council, Port of Dover Police will also be visiting vessels to talk to UK and foreign freight drivers as well as tourist passengers about road safety.
Mr Masters added: "Traffic passing through the port can be travelling all over the UK. We therefore take the opportunity to extend our commitment to road safety within the Port in order to try and ensure a greater understanding of road safety issues on UK roads as a whole."
