Last week, the Port of Dover welcomed a recycled truck made from trash and powered by used cooking oil when it arrived after completing a two year trip around the world covering 30,000 kilometres. Andy Pag and Christina Ammon chose the Port of Dover with its strong environmental credentials as the UK stop for their 22 year old converted Mercedes bus before continuing its journey via Europe to Africa.
The Port of Dover was the ideal place for Andy and Christina to mark the UK stage of their journey as, akin to the bio-truck, the Port's own combined heating and power plant installed in 2009 is also powered by used vegetable cooking oil. Port of Dover, Environmental Officer, Vicki Case said: "We were delighted to support such an unusual and interesting project especially as it is technology that we have employed at the port as part of our drive for port environmental sustainability."
Pag commented: "We are grateful to the Port of Dover and the Port of Dover Police who, along with P&O Ferries, assisted in marking our visit to the UK."
