The Port of Dover is providing nearly 90 acres of chalk downland to the Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT) in an exciting new partnership with Kent's leading conservation charity. Land situated in the Port Zone (Old Park Hill) area of Dover will be managed by the Trust with the aim of creating a nature reserve to be enjoyed by the local community.
Tim Waggott, Director of Finance and Commercial, said: "We're thrilled that we could release the potential of this site, enabling Kent Wildlife Trust to transform it into a dedicated wildlife habitat for the benefit of the local community. The Port will support the work of KWT as part of a dedicated steering group in overseeing this new project. We hope that the site will become a sanctuary both for the wildlife we wish to attract and for our community within the urban fabric of Dover."
John Bennett, Chief Executive, Kent Wildlife Trust, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Port of Dover to restore this important area of Chalk Downland. This will be a long and difficult task but the outcome, the return of a rare, beautiful landscape, rich in wildlife, will be a treasure for Dover and its residents."
