The Port of Dover has reported that last weekend saw the busiest day of the year with over 22,000 cars passing through the port, or to put it another way, 15 cars every minute of the day and night. In spite of predictions that Saturday 23 July was to be the busiest day of the year for travel, coinciding with the start of the school holidays, the number of cars through the Port last Saturday 14 August, surpassed those recorded on 23 July by 2,000.
Over the past decade, since statistics have been logged, the majority of Saturdays from late July through end of August show over 20,000 vehicles passing through the Port.
Robin Dodridge, Director of Corporate Operations said: "We are delighted that in spite of the economic climate, holidaymakers are still choosing to travel to and from the Continent via the Port of Dover. This is certainly reflected in the record numbers last weekend. The Port's staff did a great job to make sure everything worked smoothly for our customers."
