It is that time of year again when the sun is shining and gardeners and plotters get a spring in their step. Dover Town Council is gearing up for the summer season by sharing gardening tips with current allotment holders and encouraging Dover residents to apply for a plot on one of their allotments. Cultivating an allotment provides a good source of good quality fresh fruit and vegetables. It can be a very rewarding pastime, contributing to both the quality and health of people's lives.
The Town Council have seven allotment sites within the Dover town area, Pilots Meadow, Goshen Road, Northbourne, Prospect Place, Maxton, Pretoria and also Astley Avenue which is managed by the allotment holders' own association.
Any resident living in one of the six Town Council wards of Dover can apply for an allotment. There may be waiting lists and if a suitable plot is not immediately available the Town Council will hold a list of those interested and will contact them when one does become available.
The cost of an allotment from the Town Council can be from as little as £30 a year plus water. To apply for an allotment in Dover contact the Land & Communities officer at Dover Town Council on 01304 242625.
