An appeal has been made for a man and woman to come forward who helped a Dover town centre police sergeant make two arrests.
The couple offered to help Sgt Samantha Parker in Castle Street at about 3pm on Monday 21 May 2012. She had been patrolling the town centre and a found a small group drinking alcohol in the St James Street area.
She said: "I would like to thank them - the man said he was a former police officer and walked with a stick. I had just arrested a woman and they stopped and asked if I needed help. I was concerned about their personal safety but they stayed until I had arrested a man and then my colleagues arrived to assist me.
"It was very public spirited of them, they could have so easily just walked on. Once the two arrested were in police cars and the commotion had died down I went to find the couple but they had gone."
The couple are asked to contact Sgt Parker at Kent Police on 101.
A 36-year-old woman from Dover was issued with a penalty notice for drinking in an alcohol control zone.
A 44-year-old man (Paul Richards of West Street, Dover) was charged with obstructing a police officer.
