As part of celebrations to mark The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Dover District Council is supporting The Big Jubilee Lunch with a special event at the Big Screen Live Site at Dover Market Square on Sunday 3 June from 11am to 5pm.
Communities are invited to come along to celebrate the occasion with family and friends, bring a picnic with them, and join in with The Big Jubilee Lunch. Dover District Council will be providing tables and chairs at the Market Square, and there will be a range of entertainment, including a life-size Punch and Judy, live music and outside games. The BBC will be showing special Jubilee coverage on the Big Screen.
The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project, funded by the Big Lottery. The aim is to encourage as many people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours once a year, for a few hours of community, friendship and fun. Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all kinds of communities, and in 2011 the number of participants doubled to the best part of two million. This year, the event will be called The Big Jubilee Lunch and will proudly support The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 3 June.
