Cash seized from criminal will benefit young people

Friday, 22 June 2012
Kent Police has ensured that a young people's club in Nonington is benefitting with money seized from a criminal.

A cheque for £1552.50 has been presented to the Dolphin's Young People Club and will be used for an outdoor activity weekend in the New Forest for the children and their parents.

The money was presented after a deprivation order was made at Canterbury Crown Court in April. This was in respect of money seized from David Bunting of Randolph Road, Dover, who admitted supplying cocaine and ecstasy and was given a 12 month suspended prison sentence.

Kent Police financial investigator Dan Krista explained: "The money has to be used in the area where the offender lives. I did some research and felt that the club is doing some much-needed work with children and would really benefit from this money.

"To me this is a way of taking money gained through crime out of the community and putting it back in to do some good."

The Dolphin's club is for children aged six to 13 from a wide area including Aylesham, Elvington and other villages.

Club leader Pauline Catterall said: "I do feel very privileged to be able to arrange an outing like this, to be able to help young people to try new activities and for the parents to be as a family unit and to enjoy quality time all together, doing new things and seeing new places.

"I think many will remember this for a vey long time, it will improve their lifestyles, showing most of them that it is wonderful to be outdoors and free!"
