Border Force officers are investigating after approximately 13 kilos of cocaine was seized at Dover's Eastern Docks.
The drugs were discovered on Friday (28 September 2012) when officers stopped a German-registered lorry after it had arrived on a ferry from Calais. On searching the lorry and its load of empty fruit juice cartons officers found the drugs concealed under the battery.
It is estimated that the drugs could have had a potential value of £1.3 million when cut and sold on the streets.
A 39 year-old Turkish national, Bulent Toprak, appeared at Canterbury Magistrates Court today (1 October) charged with the attempted importation. He withheld his plea and was remanded in custody. He will next appear at Folkestone Magistrates Court on 9 October.
Enquiries by Border Force are continuing.
