More than 100 school children gathered at Dover Market Square yesterday to mark out a special occasion, as Dover District celebrated 100 days to go to the Paralympic Games.
A range of partners worked together to arrange a morning of activities to celebrate the occasion, including pupils from Whitfield Primary School who presented boards with the '100 days to go' message. Other activities included a workshop by Dover Arts Development in Dover Discovery Centre, making colourful pom poms for the Relay route, and sports activities in the Market Square led by Vista Leisure. Pupils also enjoyed a range of interactive games on the Big Screen.
From 29 August to 9 September, the local community will be able to enjoy live Channel 4 coverage every day of the Paralympic Games at the Live Site, Dover Market Square. Members of the public can get together to cheer on Britain's largest ever Paralympic team, as well as athletes from around the world. The London 2012 Live Site at Dover will be a great place to see all the biggest Paralympic moments play out. The site is run in partnership between London 2012, the BBC and Dover District Council, and supported by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor, partners BT and Lloyds TSB, and supporters Cisco and Cadbury.
Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, Housing and Youth said: "We were very pleased to celebrate this occasion, with 100 days to go to the Paralympic Games, and we thank all the pupils and teachers who made the celebration a success. Over the next couple of months, the London 2012 Live Site will be playing host to an action packed schedule of events on and off the screen, and the Paralympic Games will be an important part of that schedule."
This also comes as images are released nationally of a giant projection of the International Paralympic Committee's symbol on the White Cliffs of Dover, as part of the 100 days to go celebrations.
Cllr Sue Chandler added: "We were delighted that the iconic White Cliffs of Dover were chosen for this projected image of the Agitos symbol, and that this image of our world famous coastline is being used to promote this exciting occasion."
