A special Open Day for the replica Bronze Age Boat project is being held on the Roman Lawn outside Dover Museum from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday 10 April.
The free event features a range of talks, demonstrations and activities, as well as the chance to see the archaeologists at work on the construction of the half scale replica of the Dover Bronze Age Boat. The Open Day is being organized by the Bronze Age Boat Trust and hosted by Dover Museum, as part of the international Boat 1550 BC project.
A range of activities is being held throughout the day, including the chance to try Bronze Age style spinning and weaving, and the opportunity to make copper wire jewellery, to learn about rock carving and inscribe your design into clay, and to handle a collection of objects and see how a bronze sword was made.
Talks on the reconstruction will be held on the hour every hour from 10am to 3pm, and a range of demonstrations will take place throughout the day, including rope making using 'lime bast', paddle carving using bronze axes, and how to fit a Bronze Age axe head onto a handle with rawhide.
