Port of Dover holds Ferry Master Meeting

Tuesday, 18 December 2012
Port of Dover Marine Operations staff, Fleet Managers from the ferry operators and Ferry Masters from the vessels using the Port of Dover came together recently at the bi-annual Ferry Master Meeting.

Organised and chaired by the Port of Dover and held at the Eastern Docks, the event afforded the opportunity to discuss a wide range of subjects and also the chance to catch-up with fellow professionals.

The agenda was based on queries raised in questionnaires completed by the Ferry Master's in October 2012 and included an update on the Traffic Management Improvement project and the changes it will effect at Terminal 1. The meeting also afforded the chance to discuss marine services within the port such as best working practices regarding the use of tugs and touched on ferry scheduling, navigational aids and fendering.

The event was used to consult relevant stakeholders on potential changes to the way marine operations are managed such as plans to implement a trial in February to improve the efficiency of ferry arrivals at the Eastern Entrance.

This input from our stakeholders is invaluable to us as we constantly strive to improve our operational services. It was wonderful to hear some excellent feedback on our Port Controllers and the assistance they provide. We hope the meeting was of benefit to all who attended and we will look towards making this an annual event."
