Firefighters have rescued a woman who got stuck 50 feet from the bottom of cliffs at Dover yesterday (Sunday 20 May) after her boyfriend raised the alarm.
The couple had been walking along a path at Jubilee Way when the terrain became too difficult and steep for the woman to carry on. After almost an hour of trying to climb the final 10 feet to the top, her boyfriend rang Kent Fire and Rescue Service at 6.10pm.
Two crews from Dover and a specialist line rescue team from Deal were sent to the scene. Watch Manager Tony Scott said: "She was in quite a precarious position, about 50 feet from the bottom of the cliff but using safe access equipment, we managed to secure the woman until the line rescue team arrived and then she was brought up to the top to safety."
The woman - who's believed to be in her late 30s - was given oxygen as a precaution before being checked over by paramedics.
Watch Manager Scott added: "They were very impressed by how quickly we worked and we're pleased to have had such a successful outcome but there is a simple message here that people should keep to recognised paths if walking along these types of terrain as they can be very treacherous."
