The Port of Dover has announced that having been through a rigorous external audit conducted by BSI (the UK National Standards Body), it has once again achieved OHSAS 18001 certification, the internationally recognised standard for occupational health and safety.
Following a very positive assessment, the Port did not register a single non-conformance (be it major or minor) and various aspects of its safety culture can be highlighted for particular mention including the areas of emergency response, fire risk, professional insight and management oversight.
Bob Goldfield, Chief Executive, Port of Dover, said: "We put safety at the very core of our activities. Everyone in the organisation is a dedicated professional who together deliver the safe port operation we expect and users of the Port deserve."
It is no accident that the Port achieves such safety standards. Making excellence a habit is the motto of BSI and that is exactly what the Port of Dover is all about. Its customers, stakeholders and the travelling public should therefore all be reassured that the UK's major international gateway to the near Continent is operating successfully to very high international safety standards."
Mr Goldfield added: "It is down to our excellent people and their exceptional care and vigilance working 24/7 within the intensive operations of Europe's busiest ferry port. We will never be complacent and such an achievement, established within a strong safety culture, provides an excellent platform on which to continue growing our highly professional and successful business."
