Consultation launched on parks and open spaces across Dover District

Friday, 3 May 2013
A key consultation opened this week on parks and other open spaces across Dover District - and your views are sought.

Parks and open spaces are vital for the health and well-being of communities across the district. From the most visited public park, Kearsney Abbey, to the smallest village green, these open spaces provide opportunities for leisure and recreation and connect us with the natural environment.

Dover District Council has launched an important consultation on the draft Parks and Amenity Open Space Strategy, and the consultation is now up and running. The closing date for comments is 25 July 2013 and all feedback will be taken into consideration.

The strategy looks at a range of parks and 'amenity' open spaces, such as village greens, informal recreation areas, and other freely accessible open areas. It reviews existing provision and puts forward proposals for future priorities. In particular, strategically important parks are identified, and priorities for improvement are suggested.

Mike Ebbs, DDC Head of Regeneration and Development said: "It is vital we plan to ensure sufficient and sustainable levels of open space to match the district's growth agenda. This strategy reviews existing areas and puts forward proposals for the future, and we hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to have their say."
