Dover District Council's Cabinet has agreed proposals to remove the Big Screen from the Market Square.
Installed in 2008 by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) at no cost to council tax payers, the Big Screen was one of 21 'live sites' across the UK.
Cllr Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council, said: "The Big Screen provided a focal point for events linked to the London 2012 Games and we continue to see benefits in the legacy of volunteering for events across the district. The future of the Big Screen would require strong commercial content to make it financially viable, which in turn would need planning permission. Alongside the technical issues with maintaining the screen as the technology ages, keeping the screen is not a sustainable option."
Dover District Council has agreed to make the screen available to third parties should interest arise in acquiring it. The Big Screen will be removed and the Market Square made good at the earliest opportunity.
