Dover Museum earns TripAdvisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence

Tuesday, 28 May 2013
Dover Museum, which is owned and operated by Dover District Council, has received a 2013 Certificate of Excellence award from TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel website. The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor. Only the top-performing 10% of businesses listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.

Dover Museum is one of the oldest museums in Kent and was founded in 1836. Since 1991 the museum has been housed in a three storey building behind a Victorian façade in the town's Market Square. The museum's galleries tell the fascinating story of the development of the town and port of Dover from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. One of the museum's most famous exhibits is the world's oldest known seagoing boat from the Bronze Age. The boat was unearthed in the town in 1991.

Leader of Dover District Council, Cllr Paul Watkins, said: "This is a great endorsement by customers, and is in no small part due to the warm welcome visitors receive from our excellent museum staff. It also underlines the strong heritage and cultural offer in Dover that will be a major component in East Kent's bid to be the UK's Capital of Culture."

Alison Copus, Vice President of Marketing for TripAdvisor for Business said: "The Certificate of Excellence award provides top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most - their customers."
