Dover Rugby Club hosted the Kent Rugby Tournament for children aged seven years and under on Sunday at Dover's Crabble Hill ground. An enjoyable day was had by all - in no small part helped by a sunny day.
This was the second Kent U7 finals tournament to have the added support of the Port of Dover and as part of its continuing commitment to grassroots rugby in Dover; the trophies were presented by the Port of Dover's Head of Business Development and Corporate Affairs, Barbara Buczek.
The proud winners of the Port of Dover Cup 2013 were Bromley, winning against Westcombe Park with Tunbridge Wells B taking the 2013 Plate in a hard fought match against Sevenoaks A.
Richard Catt, Chairman of Dover Rugby Football Club, commented: "It was a great day for the youngsters and we are very grateful once again to the Port of Dover for its support. Rugby is a true team sport which is why I believe it is important for youngsters to join the sport and engage with others to learn teamwork. In this respect it is essential that we deliver an enjoyable and safe experience for players and parents, which is what Dover RFC in tandem with the Port of Dover has achieved."
Ms Buczek agreed: "It was an extremely rewarding to see the enthusiasm shown by young children through such a unifying community sporting event. I was delighted to make the presentations as a representative of the Port's Youth Engagement Scheme which operates in the local community."
