Dover Town War Memorial - Dedication service on Saturday 29th June

Monday, 24 June 2013
The Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverend Trevor Wilmott will lead a service to dedicate a plaque to 21 local servicemen who died in service to their country during the First and Second World Wars in the presence of the Town Mayor and Councillors on Saturday 29th June 2013 at 2pm at the Dover War Memorial. The families of those commemorated will attend the event to lay tributes and remember the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives.

Dover Town Council which owns and maintains the War Memorial on behalf of the people of Dover has in the last 12 months spent just over £4000 doing so, including the arrangements for the new bronze plaque to match other name plaques on the memorial which will have been cleaned and re-coated. Dover War Memorial Project have researched the newly commemorated names.

Bishop Trevor will also re-dedicate the Memorial to include all those who have died in any other conflicts. This will officially acknowledge for the first time that the Dover Town War Memorial has become the focus for the expression of grief following the death of a Serviceman or Servicewoman. The Town Mayor Councillor Mrs Ronnie Philpott and Councillors were moved to see flowers laid on the Memorial by local people following the death of Gunner Lee Rigby.

The Town Council is preparing the Memorial Gardens to look their best for the event and those attending will benefit from the investment in improved disabled access made by the Town Council recently.

The service is open air and everyone is very welcome.
