Householders in Dover District are being thanked following news that the district has the highest level of 'dry recycling' (recycling not including compostable waste) in Kent, and the lowest level of non-recyclable waste per household.
Latest statistics from Kent County Council show that 'dry recycling' in Dover District for 2012/13 is more than 30%, which is the highest in Kent. Total recycling (including compostable waste) is at 45.9%, the second highest in Kent, and a massive increase of over 75% on the district's recycling rate for 2008/09.
The average amount of non-recyclable (residual waste) per household for Dover District for 2012/13 was 347.4kg. This figure is the lowest in Kent, and is a decrease of more than 40% on figures for the district for 2008/09.
Cllr Nicholas Kenton, DDC Cabinet Member for Environment, Waste and Planning said: "This is a great achievement, and we would like to say a big thank you to all householders who have been taking the time to recycle. We look forward to continuing to work with residents to protect the environment and to recycle for the future."
