Friday, 22 March 2013
This week, the Port of Dover hosted 20 students from Greenwich University as part of the continuation of an on-going and successful three-year partnership. The students, who are currently studying for an MA in Logistics and Transport, visited the Port to work on two projects with the Port of Dover, which contribute towards their degrees. Their course is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK - CILT(UK).

The students are working in two project groups, looking at the Port's fresh produce market and the competitive dynamics of the industry, as well as the Freight Services Agency (FSA) business in relation to the movement of non-EU goods.

The students met Antony Greenwood and Jason Ransley from the Port of Dover and Robert Hardy from Motis, which recently took over the FSA business at Dover. This provided them with an opportunity to discuss and contribute their ideas to these areas.

A visit was then made to Terminal Control in order to see first hand how the Port of Dover is successfully run as Europe's busiest RoRo Port, followed by a tour of the FSA.

Jason Ransley, Business Development Manager, Port of Dover, said: "It was a pleasure to host a visit for such a large group of enthusiastic young professionals. The students were able to experience for themselves and explore the management of transport and logistics in an intense operational environment."

John Whiteley, Senior Lecturer from the Business School at Greenwich University said: "We are extremely grateful to the team at the Port of Dover for offering our students the opportunity to work with them for a third year. It enables our students to experience first-hand the sheer scale of operations at Dover and how the Port successfully meets the logistical challenges of such a busy port."
