Friday, 15 March 2013
Today (Friday, 15 March 2013) staff at the Port of Dover hosted a travel and tourism visit by pupils from St. Nicholas School in Canterbury, which teaches young people with special educational needs.

The students, who have been studying tourism and modes of travel as part of their geography course, visited Cruise Terminal 1 where they were given a tour by Operations Manager Mark Punton. In a specially tailored programme, the day gave them a chance to explore the passport and security procedures at the UK's second busiest cruise port. The group was also given demonstration by Port of Dover Police Rigid-Inflatable Boat and new Police Land Rover, led by the Port's Community Officer Martin Dadd.

Tracy Baldwin, class teacher at St Nicholas School said: "We have been really looking forward to visiting the Cruise Terminal at the Port of Dover and are extremely grateful to Dover Harbour Board for providing such a warm welcome and special day for our students."

The Port of Dover organised the visit as part of its Youth Engagement Scheme (YES), which aims to work with and support young people in the community.

Martin Dadd, Community Officer, Port of Dover Police said: "It was a pleasure to host St Nicholas School and create a memorable day that met the particular educational needs of this special group of young people."
