A Royal Mail Group worker from Dover has been cracking nuts to help raise awareness of prostate cancer.
Tim Hyde, a postman based at Medway Mail Centre, supported the company's Charity of the Year partner, Prostate Cancer UK with its 'Nutcracker Suite'. It is part of the charity's Sledgehammer Fund, which aims to crack prostate cancer by raising vital funds.
Tim used a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, which is a similar size to the prostate, for every donation of £5 or more that was received by Prostate Cancer UK during one hour on Wednesday January 30. It was streamed live via the Prostate Cancer UK website.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men in the UK. Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year and one man dies from the disease every hour.
Tim said: "I was delighted to join Prostate Cancer UK's nut cracking team to help 'crack' the tough nut that is prostate cancer. This was a fun way of raising awareness for a very serious disease that affects so many men throughout the UK."
Owen Sharp, Chief Executive at Prostate Cancer UK, said: "We are delighted that Royal Mail Group has appealed to its employees to get involved in the Sledgehammer Fund.
"It's imperative that people start talking about prostate cancer today. It really is Britain's best kept worst secret and we need those in Dover to help us turn this around.
"Wherever you live, help us crack prostate cancer once and for all. Men deserve better."
Royal Mail Group has already raised over £450,000 for Prostate Cancer UK during Movember last year including matched funding.
People are being urged to donate £5 to The Sledgehammer Fund by texting CRACK to 70004 or visiting prostatecanceruk.org.
