Two million apprenticeships have been created in the UK since 2010 with 3,110 people in Dover and Deal getting a vital start in life.
Sarah Smith, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate said apprenticeships offered by employers such as the Port of Dover and RK Graphics in Whitfield performed a crucial role in the local economy.
She said: "Apprenticeships are a vital part of building a stronger economy and a fairer society. By ensuring young people are able to earn and learn, we give them the opportunity to get on it life.
"That is why I am delighted young people in Dover have benefitted from fantastic training and employment opportunities that apprenticeships offer.
"I've seen for myself at the Port of Dover and RK Graphics in Whitfield the benefit apprenticeships can give to young people and I'm delighted that over two million young people across England have been able to take advantage."
Tom Bigginton (21 from Dover), now in his final year of an electrical engineering apprenticeship at the Port, said: "This opportunity has made me more ambitious - I want to achieve at the very highest level."
Sam Cook (17 from Whitfield), an apprentice IT professional at RK Graphics in Whitfield, said: "I'm working at what I'm good at and enjoy doing. Friends doing A levels are a bit jealous."
