Community groups in Kent's former coalfields have successfully applied for grants of more than £65,000 to help a range of projects for the future. This follows the announcement of just over £70,000 from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust for communities in 2014/15.
An Appraisal Panel meeting was held at the Dover District Council offices in Whitfield on Monday 23 June 2014 to consider grant applications for Coalfields Regeneration Trust Level 1 funding. It has now been confirmed that there were 17 successful projects, receiving just over £65,000 in grant funding.
Successful groups ranged from Nonington Cricket Club and Deal Bowling and Social Club, to Woodnesborough Community Project, Northbourne Parish Hall, and Deal Festival of Music and the Arts.
Grants are available to support a range of projects to help coalfield communities. Successful projects have to target the coalfields wards of Aylesham, Barham Downs, Eastry, Eythorne & Shepherdswell, Little Stour & Ashstone, Middle Deal & Sholden, Mill Hill, North Deal and St Margaret's-at-Cliffe.
The remainder of the funding will be allocated in due course. The grant funding is delivered by Dover District Council in partnership with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
