Welcome to White Cliffs Country - that's the message in an exciting new tourism campaign for Dover District for 2014, which is launched at Goodnestone Park Gardens today (Thursday 13 March 2014).
This year's Visitor Guide has been designed to reflect the district's rich history and heritage and uses a unique mix of vintage and modern images to showcase White Cliffs Country at its best. The guide is packed with information on great days out, events and places to stay in Dover, Deal and Sandwich, and the surrounding rural areas.
In this important year marking the centenary of the start of the Great War, the guide includes information on the district's links to World War One, and features a 'personal anniversary tour' from a fictional First World War couple, Jack and Agnes, who take us through the area, and share some of their thoughts and memories.
In addition to the Visitor Guide, Dover District Council continues to produce the popular Days Out leaflets, as part of the marketing campaign for White Cliffs Country.
Cllr Kit Smith, DDC Cabinet Member for tourism and culture said: "We are very pleased to work with our partners to launch this campaign, especially in this important centenary year. Tourism plays an important part in the local economy, and research shows it is worth almost £250m to the economy in Dover District, and supports more than 4,000 jobs. This campaign shows the effective partnership working between DDC and the industry, working together to promote White Cliffs Country as a great place to visit."
