A drug dealer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after he was arrested in Dover town centre and found to be in possession of more than 100 wraps of class A drugs.
David Hughes, aged 20, of Dereham Crescent, Liverpool had been appearing at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday (13 February 2014) for sentencing after he admitted possession of cocaine and heroin with intent to supply at an earlier hearing.
Officers from Dover's town centre police team patrolling in the High Street on 20 December last year spotted Hughes who was suspected of supplying Class A drugs in the Dover area.
He was seen getting into a black Vauxhall Corsa which officers stopped and spoke to the two men and woman inside. Hughes was detained and taken to Dover Police Station to be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Two plastic bags were found hidden in his underwear - one containing 55 wraps of a white powder, the other 46 wraps of a brown controlled substance.
Dover district police commander, Chief Inspector Steve Barlow said: "I am very pleased that the court has imposed this prison sentence. It supports the work we are doing on the streets to remove those bringing misery to many lives.
"This was an excellent arrest by the town centre team who have been targeting those known to have been committing crime and have made more than 80 arrests in the three months that the officers have been working together."
