Dover District Council is seeking comments on a Draft Masterplan designed to protect the historic value of the Western Heights and unlock its tourism and economic potential - with a consultation running from 13 November 2014 to 8 January 2015.
As well as commenting online via the DDC website, people can attend a consultation event at The Ark, Noah's Ark Road, Dover on 13 November from 2.30pm to 5pm, or a drop-in session at the Dover Discovery Centre on 15 November from 10am to 1pm.
The Dover District Core Strategy and Land Allocations Local Plan identify the Western Heights as one of the key assets in the district, and the Western Heights Draft Masterplan seeks to develop a framework for future action across the site.
The Draft Masterplan promotes partnership working to protect and maintain the area and to improve public access and understanding of the Fort. It aims to provide a sustainable future at the Western Heights, which will recognise its historic significance and its landscape and ecological value.
The final Masterplan is intended to be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document, which will be used by the Council to help it make planning decisions. The project has been funded by an EU Interreg programme and has involved English Heritage, Kent County Council and Dover District Council.
