Dover District Council is taking part in the nationwide Lights Out project on Monday 4 August 2014 to mark the hour that Britain entered World War 1 one hundred years ago - with a range of local buildings involved in this unique commemorative event.
The Lights Out project is inviting communities across the UK to turn off their lights from 10pm to 11pm on 4 August, leaving on a single light or candle.
Dover District Council will be involving a range of buildings, including the Gateway in Castle Street, Dover Museum, Dover Town Hall, and the Council offices at Whitfield.
Cllr Sue Nicholas, Chairman of Dover District Council said: "We are very pleased to support the Lights Out campaign in this centenary year. The project encourages people everywhere to get involved, and the single lights will help provide focal points in our communities, as we continue to remember all those who lost their lives."
Lights Out is part of the major cultural programme, entitled 14-18 NOW, taking place across the UK to mark the centenary of the First World War. 14-18 NOW was initiated by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. For more visit www.1418now.org.uk.
